SASHA

Sassy Sasha is an amazing dog. This magnificent Whippet/Lab mix came to us from friends, so we know that she was loved and well cared for. Sasha was owned by the daughter of mutual friends, who moved out of state and left her dog in her parents care. The family already had a pair of St. Bernards and 4 cats in residence. Sasha fit right in at first, but then began a relentless persecution of the family cats. Honestly....if you are going to criticize every little thing....

Seriously, Sasha needs a feline-free environment, and in that kind of home she has star potential. Sasha is extremely friendly, and loves everyone she meets. She would be the ideal addition to an active home of a single, couple, or family with older kids, who enjoy including their dog in outdoor activities. As a sight hound, Sasha is an athelete who requires a good deal of physical exercise and mental stimulation to siphon off her considerable energy. If left underexercised, Sasha can become fussy.

Sasha would make a fantastic running or hiking companion. She loves to be in motion. However, adopters must remember that sight hounds are prone to take off after a long distance prey, a characteristic that requires extreme care in allowing off leash activities. Sasha should not be trusted off leash until fully trained. Sasha has had some basic obedience work. She knows her sit, sit/stay and "shake paw" command, and she sits nicely for treats, taking them gently. She is extremely food and praise motivated and is a natural for positive rewards based leadership and obedience training techniques.

Sasha has excellent house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. She travels beautifully in the car, although adopters may wish to secure her in a car safety harness. Sasha pulls a bit on the leash, so we recommend use of a halti lead to redirect her focus.

Three years old, Sasha is in excellent shape, although she is on the thin side, and needs a nutritional regime, full of high quality protein and omega fats. She weighed 30 pounds at her vet visit and should probably put on 5 pounds.

Sasha has been spayed, and vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, bordatella and canine influenza. She has been de-wormed and tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
