SATCHMO

Satchmo's life has just been turned upside down. After four years with an owner he trusted and loved, he found himself abandoned in the Manhattan ACC shelter because that owner had become too ill to take care of him. After a short stay in our New York foster home, Satchmo is now enjoying the hospitality of our Pennsylvania foster home. Satchmo is a small standard Eskie, weighing 32 pounds. He is up to date on basic vaccinations and neutered. Below is the first report from his new foster home.

The sun came out one half hour before Satchmo arrived, so I hope it's a good omen for this little guy.  He's the most traumatized-acting dog I've received so far.  He's very frantic to escape and is determined to dig his way out under the gate.  But we've got his number and have taken preventive action.

He truly is a sweet dog and has shown us no signs of agression at all.  He is a bit leery when you approach his head and/or collar area, but nothing of consequence.  He took a leash walk down to the creek and back up to the front of the yard with Fran and she had to run to keep up with him - he's determined to go somewhere fast (home, I assume).  Currently, he's crying and digging at the back gate.  He makes your heart bleed.  We're going to have to keep him in the house with us to acclimate him and keep an eye on him.

All our dogs were successfully introduced to him.  Satchmo acted the perfect gentlemen and accommodated all the sniffs he got.  He doesn't seem to have a nasty bone in his body.

So, I'm hoping our home is good for him during his stay here, and that there's a wonderful home in his future very soon.

Will keep you posted.
