Shorty (in front) with brother Little Joe

SHORTY

We were present in the city shelter when Shorty and Little Joe were surrendered, along with their sire, a full-blooded Pomeranian. Apparently an irate landlord busted up an informal breeding operation in his apartment complex, and the stellar owner surrendered the two shy pups that he hadn't sold, and their Papa.

The shelter made a valiant effort at trying to identify the breeds on the boys' official records, and came up with American Eskimo and Maltese. We don't see it, and since we saw Papa, and he was clearly a Pomeranian, half of the equation was solved. Our best guess on the other half, is that there's a bit of short haired Chihuahua in these boys. Yes, we believe we may be looking at Pomchis!

Shorty and Little Joe are small dogs: Joseph is slightly larger at 15 pounds and Shorty is petite at 11 pounds. They both have short statures, square shoulder builds with squat legs and stand up tails. Their soft, short coats are a beautiful light honey color, with light fringe. Both Shorty and Little Joe have startling, luminous green eyes, and bewitching smiles.

Although Shorty and Little Joe were brought up together and seem bonded, we have socialized them with other dogs, so that they can be adopted separately. Of course, they also could be adopted together, to folks who are game for a pair of dogs guaranteed to get along. They are excellent family dogs and are affectionate with adults and older kids. The overzealous attentions of toddlers may make them nervous. Separately, they could easily join a multi-dog home, and in fact, we would prefer that the boys have well mannered canine companionship, because they seem to enjoy other dogs so much. We think they could do well in a feline household, as well.

Our Pomchi brothers can be a little unfocused on obedience training, Shorty, perhaps more so than Little Joe. With patience they will come along nicely, and certainly would be able to achieve their Canine Good Citizenship certification. They have slightly nervous temperments, and like most Poms and Chis, can be vocal in expressing their suspicion of certain strangers.

Shorty and Little Joe are house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during their transition to a new home. They are in optimal health, and have been recently neutered. They have been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. They have been boostered as needed. They have had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. They have been dewormed, and microchipped.
