SIMBA

Good Grief! We have a five alarm cuteness fire! Our Simba has stolen our collective hearts. Only five months old, this brave little soldier was found wandering aimlessly around a big city park, no doubt in search of Timon and Pumba. He was lost until Animal Control Officers captured....well, it wasn't so much of a capture as a bribe. One piece of Brooklyn pizza, and a chorus of Hakuna Matata, was all it took to reign in young Simba, and before he knew it, he was in the pound!

Simba made the rounds quite effortlessly, making friends wherever he went. He quickly became a staff and volunteer fave, and earned himself excellent behavior reviews. Shelter staff described Simba as a Labrador Retriever mix, but in the two months we have had him, we see his lanky frame developing into a muscular physique, which suggests Boxer to us. simba is finally growing into his feet! Now eight months old, Simba has rounded out to 35 pounds. He could easily hit 50 pounds by the time he reaches maturity.

Simba has that one in a million temperment that defines the consummate family dog. He is extremely good natured and relishes all human contact. He loves people, including kids of all ages, and is great with other dogs. Simba has a neutral temperment, and blends seamlessly into any dog pack, taking his lead from his elders. We have not had him around cats, but Simba has no predatory tendencies, so he could live in a feline household with proper supervision.

Since Simba is a young puppy, Adopters should be prepared for puppy mayhem. He does not have crazy, frantic puppy energy, but rather that endearing, dopey, puppy vibe that will inspire giggles and grins. Nonetheless, Savvy adopters should puppy-proof the household, and have appropriate expectations of a recently neutered male pup, who may still have some testosterone coursing through his system.

For a youngster, Simba has pretty good house manners, and is nearly housetrained and crate trained. Adopters are expected to troubleshoot any accidents that may occur during his transition, and to fine tune his potty habits as he adjusts to a new routine.

Simba has been the standout star of our puppy kindergarten, and is ahead of the learning curve on basic commands. He is both treat and praise motivated, and responsive to positive rewards training and leadership techniques. Simba will go to his new home with a good grasp on the basics, and adopters are strongly urged to continue him on the Canine Good Citizen protocol to ensure good behavior going forward. Adopters who follow through on leadership and obedience training have much better results than adopters who slack off.

Simba has been neutered, and has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
