TALLULAH

Our delightful dowager, Tallulah, has not had a single break in her entire life. This gorgeous tri-color Beagle lady is the Grand Dam to a family of Beagles who were surrendered by an owner, claiming that he found them as strays in the park. Sometimes, dicey owners tell tall tales to avoid paying owner surrender fees to shelters desperately in need of funds to make ends meet. Let's just say it's highly unlikely that an entire family of Beagles would be on the stroll in the city park.

Tallulah has obviously been bred during every heat cycle. The continual wear and tear on her body has caused some premature aging and some mild anemia, which we are treating with good nutrition and added iron supplements. Our vet estimates Tallulah's age in the 8 to 9 range. She is a medium sized dog, weighing 35 pounds. She is an active girl, and is full of life and love, and is Scent Hound to the bone. Tallulah truly has her nose into everything, and absolutely loves her leisurely stop and sniff walks.

Tallulah seems to be a dog whose happy expectations in life have been quashed by human greed. Compelled to produce puppies for profit, Tallulah seems to have given up the notion that she could have a life of her own. Consequently, she seems to have a timid nature, and is a bit unsure of herself. Initially, she greets strangers shyly, but when she comes out of her shell, Tallulah absolutely craves human touch. She is loving and affectionate, and would be a superb addition to a big loving family.

The ideal situation for Tallulah would be a home in which she could shine as Superstar. We would like to see her lavished with attention and love. She could easily join the moderately active home of a single or couple, recent retiree or senior. She's way past the puppy destructive years, and would be a good choice for apartment living. She's not overly reactive to sounds, and doesn't seem to bark much. She has a medium activity level and requires at least one to two leisurely strolls a day, with plenty of time built in for her to stop and smell the roses!

Tallulah is great with other dogs and cats. She could easily join a multi-dog home and would make the ideal companion to another senior dog who recently lost their beloved housemate. She could do well in a family with older children, but toddlers may not be the best fit, as their overzealous attentions can spook laid-back dogs.

Tallulah has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. Talullah is in good health, has recently been spayed, and has had a full dental procedure. Her pre-op bloodwork was normal, except for mild anemia, which we are correcting through diet and supplements. Her prognosis is excellent, with ongoing attention paid to diet and exercise.

Talullah has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and Canine Flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
