TANNER

Tanner is a timid soul, with a tad of a nervous streak.  This low confidence beauty was the victim of divorce, after which neither owner would include Tanner in their lives.  Five years old, Tanner was out of options, as his owners dumped him in a rural animal control facility, where the shelter life took a toll on his nerves.  And so, he began his rescue journey with led him to us.

It seems as though Tanner's family was more preoccupied with their own problems than with his care and training.  It's not uncommon for an insecure dog to pick up on the chaotic vibe and tension in a problematic family structure.  Sometimes this type of family frenzy can be the root of anxiety based behavior quirks.

Tanner needs to join a family with a solid structure, in which everyone is committed to his training. He needs a strong pack leader, capable of making the occasional correction.  He would be a good fit in an active, but quiet, adult home, in which his obedience training is a priority. Tanner has a bit of the characteristic Eskie stranger danger, and can be protective of his family.  We think he might be a bit too insecure to tolerate the affections of toddlers, nor would he be a good choice for a feline household.

Tanner is a gorgeous American Eskimo Dog with classic Eskie good looks.  He is a standard Eskie who measures just under 15 inches, toe to shoulder, and weighs 38 pounds.  He has a thick double coat that requires frequent brushing and an occasional trip to a professional groomer.  He has the typical Eskie personality: affectionate, playful, and extremely loving to his owners once he has bonded.

He would be the ideal choice for a savvy Eskie lover, who appreciates the ups and downs that rescue dogs go through, and who is committed to helping a rescue dog develop great potential. Tanner is extraordinarily smart, and has excelled in the first stages of Canine Good Citizenship training. He responds beautifully to positive rewards and leadership training techniques, and he's already mastered several levels of the CGC exam.  We'd like to see his adopters take Tanner the rest of the way to receive his CGC certification.

Tanner is a fairly active dog, and meeting his exercise needs is another key component to keeping him on the right track. He needs a couple of brisk leash walks a day, followed by focused obedience training sessions. Tanner would be the ideal running or walking companion for an active individual, and this simple formula will meet his mental and physical needs and build his confidence.

Tanner has excellent house manners, and is house trained. Adopters should be prepared to transition him to a new potty routine and forgive any accidents that may occur in the meantime. He is nicely crate trained, so adopters will have that tool to use. Tanner is in excellent health, and he has been neutered and fully vaccinated. He's been tested for heartworm, lyme, earlichia, anaplasmosis, and has been dewormed.  If you are interested in Tanner, please call or text Denise at 720 903 0636, or write to Denise@eskiesonline.com.
