TONY

Tony is a fascinating looking dog, and his genetics have generated a good deal of speculation. His coat is lush black with discernable shades of gray, that earned him the nickname "Two Tone." We have concluded that Tony clearly has the head and floppy ears of a Labrador Retriever, while his body and plume tail suggest a Northern breed or Spitz influence. Our shelter contacts conjecture that his lesser half is Norwegian Buhund. Ain't that a mouthful!

Tony came to us from an overcrowded animal control facility, where he landed after he was found rooting around somebody's back yard. As a stray, Tony got a 14 day reprieve from the euthanasia "At Risk" list while shelter staff attempted to track down his owner. Sadly, nobody stepped forward. Only 8 months old, Tony had become an orphan! And so, we brought him into our rescue to give him a chance at a great life. Tony has settled in beautifully, and is keeping us on our toes with his effervescent puppy mojo!

Tony is a high energy pup, who would shine in the active home of a single, couple or family with older kids who have the time to train and exercise a spirited youngster. Tony has a lot of gusto and requires a good workout each day so that he is too tired to make mischief. He would be the ideal companion to an avid runner or hiker, but needs at least a couple of brisk leash walks each day to tire him out. If left alone bored, and frustrated, Tony will become fussy.

In addition to adequate exercise, Tony needs an obedience and leadership program to help him reach his great potential as a Canine Good Citizen. He pulls a bit on lead, so adopters might want to use the Halti-lead to keep Tony's attention during daily walks. Tony is very treat and praise motivated, and responds well to positive rewards techniques. He would surely be the class superstar in any group training class.

Tony needs some work on housemanners. He will get excited and jump on people and furniture uninvited. He is house trained, but adopters must have realistic expectations of a recently neutered male puppy. The occasional accident, during his transition to a new home and routine should be forgiven. Tony is nicely crate trained, so adopters will have this tool to aid in his transition.

Tony is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
