TURA

Our stunning Tura is Her Majesty incarnate. This regal beauty was found struttin' her stuff in Brooklyn, when Animal Control Officers interrupted her stroll. Tura seemed happy enough to accompany her new guardians to the Clink, and was content to receive regular meals. Tura's confidence and friendly nature earned her an excellent shelter behavior evaluation, as well as accolades from staff and volunteers.

We were pleased to welcome Tura into our rescue, and she has adjusted beautifully to her busy foster home. She appears to be an interesting mix of predominantly Boxer, with a scoche of Great Dane to explain her narrow skull and elongated muzzle. Tura has the beautiful, rich, brown and black Boxer brindle coloration, and she sports a splash of white on her chest. Her leggy physique is muscular, and her stance is powerful.

Tura has a good nature and has blended in beautifully with dogs of all shapes and sizes. She could easily join a multi-dog home with another high energy, playful dog to engage her in spirited play. Tura needs a fair amount of exercise and mental stimulation to keep her from becoming bored and frustrated. Only one and a half years old, Tura still has a bit of puppy energy, requiring sufficient activity to balance her out.

Tura would be a great fit for an active single, couple or family with older kids. She would make an ideal running or hiking partner, and would love to be included in all kinds of outdoor activities. Because the Boxer is a powerful breed, we'd like to see experienced dog owners adopt Tura, and follow through on her obedience training. Tura has had little structured training, but she has begun to grasp basic commands. She is alert, smart and responsive to praise, rewards based training, and leadership techniques.

Tura has great house manners and is housetrained, although adopters should forgive the occasional accident that will likely occur during her transition. She travels well in the car and is not overly reactive to triggers like gas and toll attendants. She is a friendly girl, who seems to warm quickly to strangers.

Tura is in excellent health although she could stand to gain a few pounds. Now 51 pounds, she would be ideal at 57 or 58. She has been spayed and has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, bordatella and canine influenza. She has been microchipped and de-wormed and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
