VANYA

Vanya is a dream come true for Siberian Lovers. His strong, confident, fearless, demeanor is truly the temperament that enthusiasts of this breathtaking breed clamor for! Vanya is a beautiful, black, white and gray, four year old male Siberian Husky. We recently pulled him from the euthanasia list in an animal control facility where he had been lodged after being found as a stray. His coat was in shambles and he hadn't had a good meal in some time. He has been a fantastic houseguest, gets along well with other dogs, and is recovering nicely from surgery to neuter him and also remove a benign cyst from the top of his head. Surgery was a success and Vanya's Frankenstein scar will be invisible once his shaved spot regrows hair.

Vanya has a fantastic friendly temperament, but has no obedience work. He is a strong dog and needs an adopter with some physical strength, and either a prong collar or halti lead to guide him in on leash walks. He is inquisitive, intelligent and alert, and loves to be with his family. He has a bit of a busy body nature that gets him into stuff he shouldn't, like countertops and garbage...but, with proper supervision and supply of his own toys and chewies, he should be fine.

The ideal adopter for Vanya would be folks who have good Northern Breed or Siberian Husky experience, with a solid understanding of dog pack behavior, and capacity to provide significant exercise and calm, assertive leadership. Vanya is not a high energy, hyper dog, and we'd describe him more as clumsy and awkward -- bull in a china shop -- but he will need a couple of vigorous leash walks each day to keep him balanced. Vanya is not a dog who can be relegated to the back yard. He would be bored to tears. He has the capacity to jump a six foot fence, and would do better with folks who can incorporate him into their lives. He would be a super hiking or running companion and would absolutely excel at obedience work. In fact, we recommend formal obedience classes to keep this magnificent beauty on the road to good canine citizenship.

Vanya is extremely intelligent and playful. He has a robust joie de vivre that is infectious and will provide a fantastic thrill ride for the right owner. He is friendly with all people, but will easily overpower small children and small dogs. The small dogs in his foster home have gone all Napoleon on Vanya and have baited him at every opportunity, and yet, he has turned the pacifist cheek consistently. We are not able to test him with cats, but predict that he would chase them without bad intentions.

Vanya is house trained and cratetrained -- although he will pitch a fuss in the crate when he feels ignored. He would much rather be part of the family action. He is an excellent car passenger and behaves beautiful with strangers. Vanya is in excellent health and is up to date on Rabies, parvo/distemper, bordatella shots and has tested negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis. He is also microchipped and de-wormed. He has been neutered as well.
