PRINCE ZEUSOur Prince Zeus is a stunning Rat Terrier, who doesn't look nearly as old as the Shelter guessed him to be. Possibly as old as nine, Prince Zeus behaves at times like an older puppy! He found himself alone in the world as a city stray, last year, and then was adopted through the Shelter adoption program, only to be dumped back in the Shelter eight months later. Personal problems were cited as the reason for Adopter failure.....whatever that means. |

Prince Zeus is a joyous little guy, with a lively, friendly personality. He needs a bit of time and patience to warm to strangers, but bonds wholeheartedly to his person. His ideal family would include a moderately active single or couple who can provide at least a couple of brisk leash walks per day. Despite his age, Prince Zeus is an active, sprightly fellow who needs to get his daily exercise. He has lived well with young kids, but we would like to see him grow old gracefully, in a calm, quiet environment. |
| Rat Terrier lovers will enjoy Prince Zeus' comical demeanor. He is total Terrier in his tenacious zest for life and zeal in tracking down wayward rodents on his daily constitutional. Springtime in the Connecticut countryside has given him ample opportunity to indulge himself! A daily obedience ritual will go a long way in challenging this instinct, and provide Prince Zeus with the "job" that he needs to focus his energy. He is a smart boy, and is beginning to respond to positive reinforcement obedience training techniques. He already knows his "Sit" command, and is stubbornly acquiescing to the "Down." Continued obedience work will be a great bonding experience between Prince Zeus and his new family. |

Prince Zeus could adapt to a multi-dog home. He seems to have respectful pack manners, and seems slightly submissive. He would be the ideal companion for a middle-aged or senior dog who may have lost his housemate, and is feeling a bit lonely. We have not tested Zeus with cats, but he is cordial enough to coexist with a dog savvy cat. |
| Prince Zeus has good house manners and is house trained, and crate trained. Adopters will need to allow him time to adapt to a new house training routine, and should be patient as he makes his transition. He is in excellent health and has had complete a Veterinary work-up. He is at a healthy weight of 19 pounds, and has had a complete dental procedure, during which he only lost two teeth. We've taken all of the guesswork out of adopting an older dog by doing a full senior blood panel, and all of his values were within normal limits. He's in great shape, and with good nutrition going forward, he has a lot of good years left. |  |

Prince Zeus has been recently neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and Canine Flu. He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.
