ADOPTED

ZITTI

Our cutie pie, Zitti, dazzled us with her million dollar smile, and a whopping underbite. Only 2 years old, this little doll was homeless and on the stroll in a high traffic intersection, when concerned passersby coaxed her close with a bite of sandwich. She was dropped off at the Animal Control shelter, where she spent some time, before coming to us.

Zitti was irate at the snatch and grab that was perpetrated on her, and she registered many a complaint with the vet staff during her exam. As the long days of incarceration crawled by, Zitti lost her chutzpah, and became unglued and terrified of shelter life. Volunteers reported seeing her trembling in the back corner of her crate, refusing human touch.

Shelter life is so stressful for many dogs that it's tough to get a sense of their personalities. Zitti is one lucky dog who recovered from "shelteritis" as soon as she walked through our door. She warmed up quickly and has blossomed into a joyous little imp who loves everyone.

Zitti appears to be a mix of Chihuahua and Pug, and we have learned that Chugs are all the rage. Zitti's Chihuahua roots give her a desirable small stature, only 10 pounds, while the Pug DNA adds the buoyant joie de vivre to balance the Chi nervous nature. Zitti has some Pug facial features that make us giggle at her delightful expressions.

Zitti does well with other dogs, and she is mild mannered enough to get along with cats. She could easily join the multi-pet home of an active single or couple, who have mastered the pack leader dynamic. Zitti has not had much formal obedience work, but has responded enthusiastically to the basics begun in foster care. Adopters should continue her on course to Canine Good Citizenship.

Zitti may be skittish around babies and toddlers, but she certainly could join an active family, with older kids who can be gentle with a petite, dainty dog. Zitti has great house manners, and would quickly get up to speed in an active family life style. She is house trained and crate trained. Zitti is small enough to travel along on family outings, and would easily fit in an airline approved under seat carrier.

Zitti is in excellent health and is spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella and influenza. She has been de-wormed and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
