ADOPTED

LOLA

Lovely Lola has just joined our rescue, along with her housemate, Leah. Both beauties were abandoned by their owner in a suburban animal hospital during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. After a lengthy stay in the vet facility, the dogs were declared abandoned and turned over to Animal Control so that the adoption process could start. Lola received a fantastic behavior evaluation and she even impressed the vet techs who handled her during her exam.

Lola was passed over in the shelter adoption program due to the post Sandy circumstances. The shelter saw unprecedented numbers of abandoned dogs during the Sandy crisis, as well as diminished numbers of potential adopters. Lola's time was coming to an end, so we invited her, and Leah, to join our rescue. Both girls were transported to our Partner boarding facility so that we could buy them some time until we had open space in one of our foster homes.

Lola has settled into foster care beautifully and has mixed in nicely with a diverse pack of all types of dogs. She can really go with the flow. Lola has been a favorite of handlers all through her process, and we are tickled to have her.

Only 10 months old, Lola is a gorgeous puppy. She appears to be a petite mix of Labrador Retriever and Border Collie. We can see the Lab head and facial structure, and partial floppy ears, but there is unmistakable Border Collie input. Lola has a stunning splash of white on her chest and a slight fringe to her coat that is a nod to the fluffy Border Collie. Also, she is a petite girl, at only 30 pounds, her full grown weight.

Lola has a fantastic temperment, and is a natural athlete. The Border Collie DNA in her creates a smart, agile dog that needs....if not a full time job....at least a part time hobby. Lola would make an ideal agility competitor, if adopters are so inclined, but she needs at least a couple of vigorous leash walks each day to keep her happy. As a Border Collie mix, Lola can certainly find trouble to get into if she is bored and underexercised.

Lola would make a fantastic running or hiking companion for the active single or couple. She could also be a fantastic addition to the active family, with older kids, if there is enough time to engage her in formal obedience abd leadership work. Lola needs mental as well as physical challenge, and formal obedience training is an effective strategy.

As a puppy, Lola's house manners are a work in process. Adopters should be prepared to puppy proof the premises and fine tune the housetraining. Lola is nicely crate trained, and has made great strides in greeting folks in a calm manner.

Lola is in excellent health, and has been spayed, She has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. She is microchipped and de-wormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
